Today Deputy Chief
Showalter was contacted to respond to Bollman Hat for an Investigation.
Upon arrival he found that a dye that had overflowed their waste water
treatment plant, and had spilled into a storm drain box and was headed
to the stream near North Reading road. Upon his arrival, Engine 1-1-1
and Brush 1-1 were requested along with the county Hazardous Materials
Team. Crews assisted with recovering the water soluble dye into a
Bollman Hat Maintenance Vehicle, and the Hazardous Materials Duty
Officer assessed the damages and confirmed that a very minimal amount of
dye had actually made it into the stream, and that records showed the
dye to be water soluble, causing no environmental effects. Crews
utilized booms to assist with clean-up.
