The SSNB is unique to WebRing and designed to be easier than HTML to use on your site.
The Login ID you use and the URL you register are used to construct a "U" number, which is 8 digits long (under Yahoo! it was as long as 17). All memberships falling under that exact same URL/ID combination, will be assigned to that U#. All memberships assigned to that U# will display on that stack when the coding is installed.
There is no relationship between the U# and the URL where you display it. This means you could install a code containing the U# for URL A onto URL B and display all the memberships for URL A. To display all the NavBars for URL B, you must install the U# assigned to URL B onto URL B. This also means you can display anyone else's NavBars on your site. But just displaying any NavBar stack is not sufficient. It must be the correct one in order to avoid suspension for FAILing the checker.
The designation of the U# based upon ID and URL also is contingent on the specified character string for that URL. That sounds complicated so let me show an example

These are equivalent URLs, as they lead to the same place, but because the precise URL construction is different, they will produce four different U#s.
See illustrations of how stacks behave when equivalent URLs are submitted. If you want to use one stack, you must submit one consistent URL. Redirect URLs will do the same (although many do not PASS the checker and it's advised you use ONLY the assigned URL for the site, as the four above are.) Equivalent URLs are not treated the same by the system, even if they are equivalent, so unless you want to display multiple codes, check your submission carefully. Equivalent URLs can be forced on pages that don't have multiple URL possibilities (like above) through use of bookmarks. Bookmarks are created by adding the pound sign (#) to the end of the URL and adding any number of alphanumeric characters. For more on bookmarks and their purposes
There is no guaranteed relationship between the WebRing NavBars that display on a given stack and actual memberships for the URL associated with that stack. If your membership is terminated for any reason (you delete a membership, a manager denies an application or deletes your membership) or even if the URL for one membership is changed (causing it to move to a new stack) the NavBar will remain on the original stack until the next time that stack is "rebuilt" (either JOINING another WebRing or having a change in status to an existing membership.). You can also rebuild the stack by reordering it.
