This page is in memory of my handsome young boy. Taken from me too soon.
Axle was a lovely representative of the breed. In our short time in
the ring together, he had won a BJIS and BAIM at the Great Dane Club of Central PA
Match and a BJIS and BAIM at the Great Dane Club of Pennsylvania Match.
He won a Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed at the Carroll County Kennel Club
Match in Maryland and a Best of Breed and Group 1 win at the
Lancaster County Kennel Club Match.
He never failed to place in the ribbons at Specialty/All-breed Point shows.
Our first point show was the Great Dane Club of Pennsylvania under breeder judge Raymond Goldstone.
Axle placed 3rd out of a class of 7. He had just turned 6 months old the day before the show.
I was thrilled! At 7 months old he took his class out of 4 over pro handlers under judge Eric Ringle.
Axles aunt finished her Championship that day. He had a promising career ahead
of him.
Unfortunately, we had been battling with an unpredictable temperament.
Despite going through several obedience classes to try to build-up his
confidence, ruling out any thyroid problems or medical problems
and placing him on medication, nothing
helped. I had to end his young life when he was only 22 months old.
It was one of the most difficult decisions I have ever had to make.
I DO NOT recommend/endorse purchasing a puppy from Stormdancer danes!
It is ultimately your decision as to who you
purchase your pet from but PLEASE do PLENTY of research and
ask questions and ask for references from other puppy people.
Check with the local breed club, breed rescue organizations, and/or local animal control
and ask for their opinion on a breeder(s) you are interested in.
Just because you may find a "deal" on the purchase price of a dane, be forewarned that you could
end up paying a lot more both financially and emotionally.
NEVER under any circumstances leave without a signed contract, a bill of sale, vet records,
health certificate from the breeders vet, and most importantly, the AKC registration papers.
I have provided more than enough information
about this breed
as well as a ton of informative sites in my links section. I have a
questionnaire you should have potential
breeders fill out, how to interview a breeder, how to identify a healthy puppy, etc. You are also more than welcome
to contact us as we do offer breeder referrals. Noone should have to go through what my
family has gone through to enjoy the companionship and love from one of
the true gentle giants. Take the extra time and spend the extra money
for a sound dane in both body and spirit. You will not be disappointed that you did. *smile*
I have also listed his pedigree below along with a couple of pictures while he was growing up.
