Cold Wars 2003 Friday Night G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. pick-up
game. Dinosaurs, giant ants, Pygmies, sabertooth cats, a walker machine,
Amazons & Germans & Brits. Oh, my! Even a Lord of the Jungle &
a Great White Hunter! And, of course, the obligatory lost Egyptian temple
in the middle of the table. This is believed to be a photo from the 4th or
5th turn. Maybe. Yes, this is an actual game photo, not some posed after
action report picture.
Well, we DID move a few brown or green bottles out of the way...
The G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. (or simply
"GASLIGHT") skirmish rules are detailed enough to let one field a wide range of
forces yet flexible enough to adapt to different cultures & periods. It can
even handle (*shudder*) strictly historical games equally well. Sessions
with over a dozen people participating have been played and it still worked.
The GASLIGHT system has been expanded to include BATTLES by
G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. for larger battles & the roleplaying
game Adventures and Expeditions by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.,
both of which are based on the original G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.
skirmish system. All three
systems can be played in
15mm, 20mm, 25/28mm, 54mm or any scale desired by simply converting the
ranges and movement values.
Fun? You bet! (Who
has time to waste on un-fun games?) Difficult? Heck no, and it's really
flexible! What sold me on the game was
the ability to generate stats on MAD SCIENCE gizmos, vehicles &
whatnot with ease. Stats on all units can be randomly generated or
assigned. It's also easy to do other periods or genres: Age of Sail,
WW1, Pulp, WW2, etc.

A great bunch of folks who actually PLAY the game!
