Making a Small Siphon feed color cup for Badger airbrush's.

I just purchased a Badger Crescendo 175 airbrush, This is my first Badger airbrush and I really like how it feels. Up till now I have been learning the airbrush using various Astek single and double action brushes and I will not bad mouth them as they helped get me started and gave me a firm basis in the skill.

Another thing I don't really care for in my Badger is the 1/4 oz color cup. It may just be me because I learned my airbrushing with the aztek line of brushes but when trying to use the color cup that came with the brush I had to hold my airbrush at an angle to avoid spilling the paint. So after successful making a 28 mm jar adapter for my Badger I decided I could also make a small siphon feed color cup with a lid to solve my problem.

Parts needed.

The parts you need are:

#1. a Badger Fast Blast Cap 33mm Jar Adapter with Attached siphon tube.
#2. You can prob go several ways here depending on what size and style of cup you want. I used a Astek 2.5 cc side feed cup as I wanted a small cup for small jobs.

The first step is to check your lid fit on the jar you are going to use. I had 3 of these cups and 2 had tight fitting lids.. If you lid fits too loose or you use a larger size cup such as a 10 or 12 cc then you will prob have to use tape to attach the cup to your airbrush when it has paint in it. With the small cup I am using and the tight fitting lid, there is no problem with it coming apart when I'm using paint in it on the airbrush. But this potential problem is one you need to keep in mind while building it.

Now if using the side feed cup as I am doing, you would need to take the cup apart as they are two pieces to allow turning to turn the paint on and off. Then you superglue the paint cup top portion (not the lid, the gray cup part) onto the bottom with the cup in the closed position. (Otherwise you will have paint leaking out of the bottom. Then you saw off the plastic side mounted siphon tube, as you will not be needing this.

If you are using a gravity feed color cup for the modification you will have to seal up the siphon assembly either by cutting it off and sealing up the hole with some plastic super glued on or inserting something in the hole and sealing it with epoxy, this is one reason I chose to use the 2 piece side feed color cut as it simplifies this process and just looks better.

Now take the lid and try and drill a hole in the top just large enough to feed your tube in. On mine my drill broke off the top part of the cup and my hole was slightly too large, so I had to use a glob of epoxy to seal the tube to the lid.

Make sure after you have the siphon tub sealed into the lid that the small hole in the lid for the air intake is open. I had to use a pin vise to redrill mine through the epoxy

And lastly carefully measure the depth of the cup and cut your siphon tube to the length you need at a slight angle as shown below.

It is critical to get the length correct as if you cut it too short you will leave paint in the cup after the airbrush has stopped spraying. I used a razor knife and cut it a very little at a time with a very slight angle until it was correct. And the lid went tightly. When I use this there is almost no wasted paint left in the bottom of the cup.

.

And there you have it a small 2.5 cc color siphon feed cup for a Badger airbrush.
