George S. Gadbois P.E.

Amateur radio station W3FEY

Formerly W1UIZ

VHF/UHF operation only at this time

I am a retired Chemical Engineer.  I worked for RCA and its' successors, General Electric and Thomson, in the Color Picture Tube division in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from 1955 to 2003 when my job was exported to Mexico.

For how I was hooked on Amateur Radio, there is a brief Amateur Radio biography.  I was mostly inactive from 1988 through 2000 when I started the present station rebuilding process.

I am now on 50, 144, 222(FM only), 432 and 1296 with limited antennas except for 1296 where I have a 67el SHF yagi about 40' up.  Transmitter power output on 1296 is about 100 watts.

I call in to the Monday night Packrat 1296 MHz net whenever possible.  K3TUF, Ephrata, PA, is the net control station for the net.  Activity is increasing on 1296 with WA2LTM running a Northeast net on 1296.110 at the same time as the Packrat net.  The Northeast net has stations from NJ, NY, CT, and occasionally NH and ME.

I have collected many operating awards all on VHF/UHF.  The Lancaster Radio Transmitting Society started the Thirteen Hexes Club award  in the mid 1950s for working 13 stations in Lancaster county, PA.  I hold certificate #15.

Other area clubs also give awards for working local stations. There are also awards for competitive events such as contests.

I am active in local radio clubs interested in emergency communications and VHF/UHF.  I am also interested in history as you will see from the following links.  I greatly appreciate the historical information that people send from time to time.
