Strasburg Railroad locomotive 1223 was formerly used by the Pennsylvania Railroad for the Broadway Limited from New York to Chicago. 1223 operated on the Pennsylvania Railroad until about 1950. The Strasburg Railroad used 1223 on their regular runs from 1965 until she was retired to the Railroad museum of Pennsylvania in 1990. See the Strasburg Railroad web site.
Here is 1223 greeting the crowds on Water Street in downtown Lancaster. Photo provided by Lloyd Jury, Lancaster historian. The tracks on Water Street are now gone. This was the line to Quarryville until about 1960.
