Thursday Botany Walks in Berks County - 2010

BEGINNING FEBRUARY 18, 2010

A new series of walks 
led by Dr. Susan Munch of Albright  College

These walks are planned for throughout the seasons. They will be led by Dr. Susan Munch of Albright College at many locations throughout Berks County. Free. If possible, contact the leader at 610-921-7727 or at to let her know you will attend or  for directions. An opportunity to learn the flora of Berks County and to visit locations where  you can find different habitats and associated plants. Dr, Munch is the author of Outstanding Mosses & Liverworts of Pennsylvania & Nearby States

February is a good time to learn to identify trees and shrubs in their winter condition and to look at evergreen ferns and mosses and liverworts.

February 18, 2010       Thursday   2 - 4 pm 
Antietam Nature Trail. Meet at the parking lot at Antietam Lake.
(The Earl Poole Preserve walk originally scheduled for this date may be rescheduled.)

February 25, 2010       Thursday   2 - 4 pm CANCELED due to snow. (as of Feb. 24, 6 pm)
Mt.  Penn above Oak Lane. Meet at Oak Lane and Exeter.

March 4, 2010             Thursday    2 - 4 pm
Nolde Forest. Meet at the main parking  lot (near the Mansion and McConnell Hall).

March 11, 2010          Thursday    2 - 4 pm
Neversink Mountain. Meet at the Berks County Conservancy parking lot at the end of Klapperthal Rd. Take Perkiomen Ave. east to West Neversink Rd and turn right. Klapperthal is the last road on the right before Forest  Hills Cemetery. 

March 18, 2010          Thursday    2 - 4 pm
Antietam Nature Trail. Meet at the parking lot at Antietam Lake.

March 25, 2010          Thursday    2 - 4 pm
Monocacy Hill. Meet at parking lot on Geiger Rd. Drive east on Rt. 422 until coming to the traffic light at Limekiln  Road. Turn left on Limekiln Rd. using the jug handle turn. Continue to Monocacy Road and turn right. At Geiger Rd. turn right, travel a short distance, and park in lot on right.
