Thursday Botany Walks in Berks County - 2010

BEGINNING FEBRUARY 18, 2010

A new series of walks 
led by Dr. Susan Munch of Albright College

These walks are planned for throughout the seasons. They will be led by Dr. Susan Munch of Albright College at many locations throughout Berks County. Free. If possible, contact the leader at 610-921-7727 or at to let her know you will attend or for directions. An opportunity to learn the flora of Berks County and to visit locations where  you can find different habitats and associated plants. Dr, Munch is the author of Outstanding Mosses & Liverworts of Pennsylvania & Nearby States.

August 19, 2010         Thursday   2 - 4 pm
Nolde Forest. We will visit Painted Turtle Pond and adjacent fields. Meet at the main parking lot (near the Mansion and McConnell Hall).Walks are led by Dr. Susan Munch of Albright College. If possible, contact the leader at 610-921-7727, or 610-987=3538.  Free.

August 26, 2010         Thursday   2 - 4 pm
Blue Marsh  Lake - Justa Road.  Directions. From US 222, Spring Ridge Drive exit: Northbound traffic turn left at ramp's end, proceed to traffic light and turn right onto Paper Mill Road. Southbound traffic bear right from exit ramp onto Paper Mill Road.
Beyond Body Zone, stop, turn left and cross Cacoosing Creek on an open-grate bridge entering Lower Heidelberg.  Follow Paper Mill Road to its end at Rebers Bridge Road, turn left and do not exceed the posted speed limit.  --  At State Hill Road, stop, then continue on Brownsville Road past Ganly's Pub and Deli.  Ignore an orange detour sign at Church Road and look for Justa Road, clearly marked, just beyond Highland Road at Spitler's Alignment. Turn right onto Justa Road and follow it to a gate and parking area on State Game Lands 280.

September 2, 2010         Thursday   2 - 4 pm
Birdsboro Reservoir. Access is from the non-Birdsboro end due to the damaged bridge being closed.
From Gibraltar (Rt 724 & Gibraltar Road) travel east about 1.6 mi and turn right. Cross the RR tracks and immediately turn left. In a few car lengths the road turns right and becomes Rock Hollow Road.
Follow Rock Hollow Road about 3-1/2miles (crossing Cocalico Rd at ~2-1/2 mi.) and turn left at Hay Creek Road. Follow to gate and park.
