The Controversy over the Class-size Committee
The appointment of a reputed Aryan Nations member
to a Boyertown Area School District "class size" committee aroused the
fears of many in the Boyertown area, leading to a widely publicized protest
by the BAUC and others and the subsequent reconstitution of the committee.
After press coverage revealed Tom Blair's self-proclaimed affiliation with
Aryan Nations, the president of the school board defended the appointment,
citing her ignorance of Blair's confession, which was made to members of
the Unity Coalition at a monthly meeting. The board was forced to
reconstitute the committee, dropping the other four residents who had been
appointed with Blair, in order to avoid a legal fight over Blair's exclusion.
